Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far

Image

Near and Far. That’s the theme of Weekly Photo Challenge that would end this Friday.

When I read the post at first I thought it is an easy theme especially when I saw the example of the picture. But then the more I read it carefully I found myself lost in somewhere. So I asked for a help from a friend of mine to help me understand what it is about. After a short period of discussion with him so I came up to a conclusion that this theme, Near and Far, is about to create a space in the scene like it is a three-dimensional picture by including the foreground, middle-ground, and the background. Also using features like diagonal lines can help to create this effect as stated by Brian Cooney.

I hope my entry below fits the theme:

Travel theme: Art

Image

Yesterday I went to see an exhibition at The Turnpike Gallery in Wigan. It is called Beastly Machines, Kinetic Sculptures by Johnny White. It’s taking place on 30 June – 8 September 2012 and it’s a free entry.

My Weekly Travel Theme: ART

I didn’t see many people there. Perhaps it was because I went in the late afternoon. There are eight kinetic sculptures in that exhibition such as: Shopping Centaur, Thrush Hour, Canoodling Canoe Gnus, Life Cycle of A Mosquito, In The Dog House, Pigs Might Fly, The Owl and The Pussy Cat. I don’t know the name or title the other one since I didn’t see any board information about that kinetic sculpture.

I took some pictures for each of them. I submit these pictures as my first entry of Weekly Travel Themes in which this week theme is ART.

The Versatile Blogger Award

Few days ago my new online friend, pinay e-motion, has left me a comment on my post here says:

Hi Inge,

Hi, I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. I think your post is great. You have impressed me not only in your ability to discuss different interesting topics in your blogs, but have also captivated me in your ability to capture different great images through your genius manipulation of the lens. I hope you’ll consider accepting it and the acceptance rule: Versatile Blogger Award.

Have a nice day!

Oh wow! She’s really surprising me since we’ve just met online less than a month until now. We had a little chat when we met first time and apparently she could speak Indonesian, my mother language, though she’s from Philippine! How nice is that?! So we ended up ‘speaking’ (or I should say writing) in Indonesian and her writing is very good!

Now she’s nominated me for The Versatile Blogger Award (VBA) with other 14 bloggers here. What an honour! Thank you very much for the nomination, pinay e-motion!

My Yellow Rose Flower

I dedicated this post for all my followers as well as I’ve reached a hundred followers until now. Many thanks to all of you!

I hope that my nominee-bloggers would like to pass this award to other bloggers and follow the VBA rules as follows:

  1. You must give credit to the person that has nominated you and create a link to their blog in your post.

  2. You must create a list of 15 blogs that you enjoy most and link to those as well. Then you must go and tell them you have nominated them. That means if you do not have 15, you cannot do this step. If you do not complete this step, then you cannot claim this award.

  3. Finally, you must create a list of seven things about yourself.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun

Image

About a week ago a friend of mine took me along to Bradford in West Yorkshire, Northern England. On our way back home at around 7 pm we saw this phenomena of the sun before our very eyes. I just couldn’t stop admiring it and while my friend drove the car I just kept going with my camera taking pictures. The panorama was just simply beautiful and amazing!

I was going to post these pictures a day after but then decided to hold them up until the new theme of the Weekly Photo Challenge: Sun, been given out. I got a feeling that the new theme would be something related to my pictures and I was right! I am not a fortune teller nor a mind reader though, LOL. I am going to spoil you with my crepuscular rays.

So here comes the sun…

Bala, Love at The First Sight

Image

My first time to visit Bala Lake was in summer 2009 with friends from the church for summer outing. My first impression was WOW and it still remains until now. My second time was summer last year and the third time was on Easter Sunday this year. I just can’t get enough. In Bala I fall in love at the first sight with Wales. Aha! I sounded so poetic, LOL.

Wales is largely mountainous and such a nice place to visit to. It offers you a beautiful, breathtaking, and spectacular scenery. That is the facts. What I love about Wales is its atmosphere and its nuance. It’s very relaxing. Some places still have old fashioned buildings and some houses still keep their old fashioned style as well. I’ve been to some places in Wales such as Llangolen, Holywell, Pantasaph, Rhyl and Prestatyn, Conwy, and of course, Bala.

Bala, Gwynedd in Welsh, is famous with its lake called Bala Lake or Llyn Tegid in Welsh. It’s a tourism place and located in Snowdonia National Park. In the summer there will be more and lots of people doing camping either any outdoor activities. In Bala they still have steam trains that operate alongside Bala Lake Railway.

Here some pictures of Bala that I took last year and last Easter Sunday.

My Photojournalism: Newfoundland Dog Event at Lake Bala

Image

Last weekend or on Easter Sunday to be exact, I went to Lake Bala in North Wales for a day trip with a friend of mine. We arrived there at about 1 pm. Apparently there was Newfoundland Dog Event taking place when we got there.

The situation of Newfoundland Dog Event

The dogs are giant and it was my first time to see that kind of dogs.

Isn't he/she giant?

Have a break

They were trained for lifesaving. The dog had to swim to his or her owner and the staff trainer who were waiting for in a lifeboat. When the dog reached the lifeboat then he or she would be given a rope that been tied to the boat, and with that rope the dog had to drag the lifeboat to the coast.

This dog refused to swim into the water. It took ages to persuade him/her.

Finally he/she started swimming after back and forth into the water.

As the dog swam by, the owner cheered him/her on.

"Yes, come on, buddy! You're nearly here!"

"Oh, noooo!" said the owner. The dog made a U-turn before reached the lifeboat and swam away.
