Dirty but Beautiful

Image

Early of Spring time this year I and a friend of mine went for a walk down to a canal that connects Leeds and Liverpool.

When we got there I saw that some parts along the canal was covered by some oil. I guessed it was the oil that been used to run the canal boats around there. Obviously it’s not good for the surroundings but what can I do? *shrug*

Apart from that unpleasant thing the weather was very good, sunny bright. The shadows of the trees and other surroundings reflected to the water and the sunlight emphasized so it created abstract patterns.

My Photojurnalism: Student Protest Over University Fees in Liverpool

Image

These pictures were taken in Liverpool, 24 November 2010, when there was some protest by student over university fees. It started in London and had spread throughout some big cities in England such as Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. You can read the news here: Thousands march in student protest over university fees.

I and a friend of mine were sitting inside The Piazza Café at The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ The King Liverpool when the protest happened in the late afternoon. They did march through the central Liverpool and they stopped by in front of The Metropolitan Cathedral along The Hope Street, a road that connects the two Cathedrals in Liverpool, Anglican and Catholic ones.  Thanks God that the protest didn’t turn to a violence liked in London at the time.

The Wall of Liverpool – Threshold to The Ends of The Earth

Image

Back to 2008 when Liverpool was the host of European Capital of Culture. I and a friend of mine found this place by accident when we were hunting superlambananas all over the places in Liverpool at the time. This big wall is located by the end of Old Hall Street.

If we stand up at the side wall where we can read: Liverpool – Threshold To The Ends Of The Earth, then everything feels and looks normal. What I meant by normal is I didn’t feel like I was standing in a high place. But if you go to the other side of the wall then you will realize that apparently you were standing up on a high place. When I looked through the circle I could see the road was quite deep down below me. I felt a little bit scared when I was climbing that circle to be honest, but the view was just stunning. We could see the Liverpool landscape and River Mersey in the distance. Liverpool is a beautiful city.

To know a little bit more about the quote on the wall then you may want to read this article: John Davies, A threshold to the ends of the earth.

Light Reflection of Lent

Image

To mark The Season of Lent this year that would has been just started today and known as Ash Wednesday then I would like to present an image that relate to that event or theme.

This image I took in March 2010 just few days before Easter where priests were giving Sacrament of Penance.

The location is inside The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ The King Liverpool. The sun was very bright at the time. I couldn’t remember whether it was raining before or not. As many church in England or Europe where their windows are made from colored glass so is this Cathedral Church. That is why when the sun shines very bright then we could see its light reflected by the colored glass. Just beautiful!

I wish everybody have a good Lent especially those who celebrate it. It’s time to reflect our lives more deeply during The Lent. I took this opportunity to share Pope Benedict XVI’s message for Lent 2012.

I tried to capture the sunshine with my Samsung Digimax A7. It just shows how bright the sun was. It was so shiny.

The Sunset and The Birds

Image

Taking a picture of a bird is always be one of my obsessions in photography. I used my Samsung Digimax A7 Digital Camera to take these pictures.

Actually I wasn’t planning to take the pictures of the birds but the sunset since it formed like a heart at the time. But then I saw there were a lot of birds flying around the river and so I decided to take their pictures as well along with the sunset.

A Summer Couple

Image

I took these pictures in the summer where I was practicing a lot to take close up pictures. I always love to see the close up pictures of the insects or flowers and these ones were my first experience to capture the moment between the bee and the flower. I used my Samsung Digimax A7 camera.

Unknown Flower

Image

These pictures were taken years ago in Liverpool with my Samsung Digimax A7 Digital Camera. It was my first camera that I ever could afford it.

I learned how to take a close up picture for the first time with that camera and these two were some of my results.

I called it unknown flower since I don’t know the name of it. Forgive me for my poor knowledge. I would be happy and give thanks if there is any of you can tell me the name of this flower.
