Story Challenge: Letter “B” is for Blue Moon

Image

Early of last month some friends from the photography group where I join at had talked about blue moon that was occurring at the end of August 2012. I was quite exciting about the news though didn’t know too much about it. One friend explained that the full moon would occur twice within a month and the second one is called blue moon. At first I thought that the moon would turn blue in colour as called but apparently I was wrong! It’s called blue moon because it’s a rare event.  As a result there is a phrase ‘once in a blue moon’. Well I never knew it before to be honest.

So last Thursday I prepared myself to take pictures of the moon after checked the forecast though the blue moon would occur on Friday according to the news. Good that I did check it, or otherwise I would miss it! The weather was good on Thursday while it was raining on Friday started in the afternoon. I started taking pictures after 10 pm on Thursday and stayed up late.

Here my photo series of the blue moon:

Have a Blessed Sunday, everyone!

My Photojournalism: The ‘Small’ Supermoon

Image

Few days ago people were talking about the phenomena of perigee full moon or ‘supermoon’ that was going to occur on 5th and 6th of May 2012. As a person who really loves things about the universe or astronomy so obviously I didn’t want to miss that moment. Unfortunately the weather in UK at the times was not quite supporting. It was cloudy on Saturday so the moon was covered by the clouds. It was better on Sunday though it wasn’t too bright I think.

It is not only the weather as my challenge to take pictures of night sky photography but also my pocket camera, Kodak Easy Share C713. It didn’t stop me to capture the moment during that time anyway.

Here my photographs of my small supermoon:

How about yours? Could you see this phenomena clearly where you lived by?

My Photojournalism: Newfoundland Dog Event at Lake Bala

Image

Last weekend or on Easter Sunday to be exact, I went to Lake Bala in North Wales for a day trip with a friend of mine. We arrived there at about 1 pm. Apparently there was Newfoundland Dog Event taking place when we got there.

The dogs are giant and it was my first time to see that kind of dogs.

Isn't he/she giant?

Have a break

They were trained for lifesaving. The dog had to swim to his or her owner and the staff trainer who were waiting for in a lifeboat. When the dog reached the lifeboat then he or she would be given a rope that been tied to the boat, and with that rope the dog had to drag the lifeboat to the coast.

This dog refused to swim into the water. It took ages to persuade him/her.

Finally he/she started swimming after back and forth into the water.

As the dog swam by, the owner cheered him/her on.

"Yes, come on, buddy! You're nearly here!"

"Oh, noooo!" said the owner. The dog made a U-turn before reached the lifeboat and swam away.

My Photojournalism: The Wintry Weather in UK

Image

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. That is an English proverb to describe the typical weather in March. Apparently this time of year it happened the other way round in United Kingdom (UK).

March started with beautiful and pleasant weather, sunny and dry. I read on a newspaper about a week ago that this is the hottest March in UK in 55 years. Unfortunately the weather turned out chilly in the last week.

Back to the English proverb. According to the article on Wikipedia it is said that the proverb is applied to the month of April more often than March in Wales. Apparently it is true. The weather forecast had predicted a week ago that there would be snow coming and there would be a chance to have snow on Easter! They were right except for having snowed on Easter. There were some snow at the time but the melting ones as I saw it when I went to North Wales on Sunday.

So now UK is having wintry weather in the spring time! I even have to wear my winter coat back due to the weather conditions at the moment.

I took those pictures yesterday (26th March 2012) at around 8 pm after read this article: Moon and Venus closest in west after sunset March 26. I tried to shoot them again in one hour later but unfortunately I couldn’t get nice pictures due to my lack of the equipments. I only used my Kodak Easy Share C713.

This post is to continuing my previous one here.

Hope you enjoy it! 🙂
